ABOUT THE BIBLE: We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. Human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, wrote it. We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice. We believe that Christians need to know and study the Old Testament and the New Testament. ABOUT GOD: We believe in one God, who created the world and all that is in it. We believe that God is sovereign, that is, God is the ruler of the universe. We believe that God is loving and we can experience God’s love and grace. ABOUT JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus was human. He lived as a man and died when he was crucified. We believe that Jesus is divine. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. We believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and that the risen Christ lives today. (Christ and messiah mean the same thing—God’s anointed.) He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate God’s power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. We believe that Jesus is our Savior. In Christ, we receive abundant life and forgiveness of sins. We believe that Jesus is our Lord and that we are called to pattern our lives after his. ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit is God with us. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. We believe that the Holy Spirit comforts us when we are in need and convicts us when we stray from God. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. We believe that the Holy Spirit awakens us to God’s will and empowers us to live obediently. He gives every believer at least one spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. ABOUT THE TRINITY: God has eternally existed in three personalities. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are commonly used to refer to the threefold nature of God. Sometimes we use other terms, such as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. These three are co-equal and are one God. ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS: We believe that human beings are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. We believe that all humans can choose to accept or reject a relationship with God. We believe that all humans need to be in a relationship with God in order to be fully human. ABOUT SALVATION: Salvation cannot be earned. There's no behavior, no matter how holy or righteous, by which we can achieve salvation. Rather, it's the gift of a gracious God. We're saved by grace alone through faith alone. We're made whole and reconciled by the love of God as we receive it and trust in it. ABOUT THE CHURCH: We believe that the church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today. We believe that the mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We believe that the church is “the communion of saints,” a community made up of all past, present, and future disciples of Christ. We believe that the church is called to worship God and to support those who participate in its life as they grow in faith. ABOUT ETERNITY: People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. |
